Quite often we talk about a pleasing personality or a irritating personality of a person with whom we happen to interact.
Personality is actually a very complex concept in which a whole individual is studied as a whole. Our concepts of pleasing or irritating personalities actually refer to the impact a person creates on us while interacting. It also means to what extent an individual impresses us. It refers to special characteristics, abilities, emotional and social traits, interests and attitudes of a person. Personality is something that can be described in terms of behaviour of an individual, his words, thoughts and gestures.
Etymologically the word 'personality' has been derived from the Latin word 'Persona' which means mask or make-up or cover through which an actor plays his or her role on the stage.
The term personality itself represents different qualities of a person. These are as follows:-
P : Perception;
E : Emotional Maturity;
R : Responsiveness to situations;
S : Self expression or Sociability;
O : Organised;
N : Noble and flexible;
A : Appearance;
L : Leadership feeling;
I : Integrated;
T : Tendencies, impulses, dispositions,
innate and acquired;
Y : Young, vital and unique.
Characteristics of a person with balanced personality:-
(a) The person appreciates and understands actions and emotions of others and always try not to hurt others' egos or Self- respects.
(b) He/ She is capable of adjusting with changing environment or situations.
(c) The person is courteous and disciplined.
(d) The person has the capacity to lead a group or society.
(e) The person is capable to maintain equality and similarity with other members of society.
(f) The person's actions and behaviour are purposeful.
(g) The person has strong will power and self control.
(h) The person has good physique and sound mental health.
